Ames began his career at the Walt Disney Studios, working on films that included Fantasia and Pinocchio. He taught at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, and at Dowling College on Long Island, New York. An avid worker, Ames directed his own advertising agency, illustrated for several magazines, and illustrated approximately 150 books that range from picture books to postgraduate texts. I purchased this book for my nephew who was turning 9 on his birthday. I bought it along with a Strathmore Kids sketchbook and some good pencils. I was worried that it might be a little too advanced for him, but that was definitely an unfounded concern. It was perfect, and he was drawing vehicles in no time. The steps are simple and there is a nice variety. I would definitely recommend this as a gift for a young boy!
